There are many resources available to women or men in abusive relationships including:
- Feel scared of how my partner will act?
- Make excuses for my partner's behavior?
- Always do what my partner wants instead of what I want?
- Believe that I can help him/her change?
Physical abuse: "Has my partner ever...?"
- Hit, kicked, choked, or hurt me physically?
- Threatened to hurt or kill me?
- "Put me down" in public or private? Put down my accomplishments or goals?
- Told me that I am nothing or worthless?
- Blamed me for how they feel or act?
- Pressured me sexually for things I'm not ready to do?
- Treated me in a rough or disrespectful way during foreplay or sex?
How do I stay safe?
Tips for getting out of an unhealthy relationship or staying safe:
- Tell your parents, friends, teacher or counselor what is happening.
- Have your friends hang out with you and do activities that you enjoy.
- Keep a cell phone with you and try not to be alone with your dating partner.
- Make a plan on how to break up with them in public, with friends nearby.
